Why not give it a try
We’re always keen to meet new players and to introduce them to croquet, even if they’ve never set foot on a croquet lawn before.
Anyone is welcome to come to one of our roll-up sessions to see what the game is like. To protect the lawns and themselves players must wear flat shoes with no heels and with fully covered toes (no sandals, please). We’ll provide all the equipment you need. You will be paired with one of our more experienced members, who will provide the necessary tuition and guidance to get you playing really quickly.
Our roll-up sessions are held on:
-
- Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings from 09:30 until 12:00.
- Saturday afternoons and Bank Holidays from 13:30 until 16:30.
- Wednesday evening between 18.00 and 20.00 (from May until early September).
If you like more information before visiting the club, please e-mail our secretary, Janet at maldoncroquetclub@gmail.com.

Our playing season runs from April to October, and members can use the club equipment whenever they play. Once you’re a member you’ll be able to play as much as you like, either at our roll-up sessions, or by booking a lawn at other times to play with fellow members or your guests. There is a booking system which members should use to arrange games outside roll-up sessions.
We encourage new members to attend roll-up sessions. Normally partners and opponents are drawn randomly, but we make an exception for newer members and pair them with more experienced players who will provide advice and guidance on the basic skills needed for golf croquet, We will also arrange coaching sessions designed to take you through the basics of techniques and skills required to enjoy the game at a competitive level.
And if you are so inclined you can enter our club competitions. Over half of our members enter at at least one of these every year. Members also regularly enter other competitions organised by Croquet England or by other clubs. One of our members, Walter Hall, was the overall winner of the All England Handicap in 2023. We also enter teams in the East Anglian Croquet Federation Handicap League. About a quarter of our members play in at least one league game a season.
Members are asked to make annual donations to further the aims of the club. For 2025 members are asked to make minimum donations as follows:
Standard members | £150 |
Evening Members (Play after 16.00 including weekends) |
£75 |
Evening Members under 25 years old (Play after 16:00 including weekends) |
£50 |
Distant members (i.e. live more than 50 miles away from the Club) |
£47.50 |
These levels are reduced by £17.50 (£5 for under-25s) if you already belong to another club affiliated to Croquet England.
Visitors are very welcome but will be asked to make a donation of £7 a session to support the aims of the club. After 3 sessions you will be encouraged to join the club, and your visitor donations can be offset against your membership donation.
